óRBITA UPCYCLING

óRBITA UPcycling

Barcelona, Spain

óRBITA UPcycling is a line of sustainable paper jewelry that works under the concept of upcycling, which is to recover materials and give it a new value, without losing it’s original shape. This project was born in 2007 in Argentina, making jewelry with various waste materials.

Over time I have became aware of the environment issues surrounding our excessive consumption of single use paper. Since it’s a resource that can be recycled we don’t realise how problematic our daily paper consumption is.

Giving this material a second life since 2016 was the goal for óRBITA UPcycling. We work with papers that are collected from the public and institutions, as well as other types of papers; papers that tell stories, a trip, a memory, a lived experience, which has an emotional importance for each people.

We work in small collections and unique pieces. The necklaces and earrings threaded with threads of natural fibers and silver wire and alpaca, and all the beads with which the pieces are combined are from broken or donated necklaces.

Changing the concept and vision that Jewelry is only made through metals and precious stones, is the goal of óRBITA UPcycling. Give rise to working with resources that are already on Earth.

I’m Francisca Cortés creator and designer of the brand, I’m Argentinian and I moved to Barcelona 10 years ago. I come from the world of art, engraving and conservation and restoration of paper, I’m trained in contemporary jewelry making.
